Great lunch spot. Terrific vegetarian and vegan dishes and I am a carnivore. We arrived right at 3:00pm which was when the restaurant was scheduled to close that day (it was Christmas Eve. Not sure what their typical hours are). They graciously let us in for lunch anyway.
The menu that day contained just a few items, green salad, salmon burger, salmon over rice, and veggie lasagna. We had the lasagna and shared a strawberry and almond smoothie. Everything was delicious and very satisfying like a home cooked meal.
The restaurant had only been open 10 months when we were there. We truly wish them the best so we can enjoy the restaurant again the next time we're in San Juan.

Super cool little place hidden from the droves of blindly marching tourists stumbling from tchotchke shop to tchotchke shop...
We only had the smoothies but they were great and made with fresh organic ingredents and obvious care.
Neat art on the walls too!

Verde Mesa is an awesome little restaurant specializing in native Puerto Rican vegetarian and seafood dishes. It's operated by a young couple - Gaby and Joyda, who focus heavily on organic ingredients produced locally to support the produce growers of the island.
Since we were new to PR and it's cuisine, we pretty much went with Joyda's recommendations and were pleasantly impressed.
Definitely check it out.

Very pleasing little lunch spot. Very vegetarian-friendly. Service was attentive and helpful. Fresh juices delicious (Mom loved her Lemongrass-Ginger-Lemonade), sandwiches excellent-- 'grilled veggies' is usually boring, but Verde Mesa's was not at all. The asparagus-potato soup was a hit at our table. But oh, that green sauce! Ask for the green sauce! It's amazing. Someone please get me the recipe?
